Our Success Stories
Dr H Mascaro
Dr Mascaro completed her residency in child psychiatry at the Bronx-Lebanon hospital and continued to work there for 2 years. Eventually growing tired of her 2 hour commute, she decided she was willing to search for alternative options closer to her home. We connected her with a rural clinic in southern Iowa through telemedicine.
“I was skeptical when I first tried telemedicine, but now I love it. I didn’t want to leave the Bronx-Lebanon completely, so we worked out a part time role where I would work through telemedicine 3 days a week and visit the hospital 2 days a week. It didn’t take very long for me and my patients to get comfortable with telemedicine and I’m absolutely happy I tried it.
The lifestyle change has been great. I work 9-5 and during that time, I’m almost entirely focused on seeing patients instead of any administrative work. Now I have more time to relax at home, focus on working the type of work that is important to me, all while getting a salary that’s almost double what I had before.” - Dr Mascaro
Southern Iowa Mental HEalth Center
Southern Iowa Mental Health Center operates in rural Ottumwa and provides therapy, psychiatry and a host of other mental health services to the local community. Their sole psychiatrist married someone from another state and decided to move to New York.
In order to maintain their psyciatric services, they decided to provide their psychiatric services through telemedicine, with the stipulation that the psychiatrist would return 6x a year to see patients in person. Now the clinic has two full time “tele-psychiatrists” seeing the majority of patients through the internet, with select intakes and patients seeing the doctor in person as needed.
“The process has worked pretty well for our patients. We set up two offices with large TV screens and a camera, so the experience isn’t uncomfortable at all. The technology system (lifecare) works great and is very easy to connect to.
We’re happy that we get to maintain our relationship with Dr. Jimmy and that we get the chance to grow our network and continue to provide psychiatric services to our community.
